Domaine de la Tour du bon

The Domaine de la Tour du Bon is in one of the most picturesque parts of the Bandol appellation region with views from the Castellet hillside and across the gentle slopes south and west and out to the Mediterranean. Despite the wonderful gardens surrounding the main cave and family home, the vineyard is on one of the driest parts of the area, according to Margarita who welcomed us warmly into the estate and the micro-climate means that it is usually the first place to start and finish harvest.

Margarita explained that her grandparents started making wine at la Tour du Bon about 50 years ago, beginning with just a couple of hectares and now covering 17 hectares. About 60% of the estate’s output is rosé, 35% red and the remainder, white.

We tried the Domaine’s 2017 rose which consists of ab 40% mourvèdre, 40% cinsault and the remainder, grenache. Margarita pointed out that the mourvèdre and cinsault fared well in the dry year of 2017 (compared with the grenache which didn’t) and the result is the dryness of the pour. A lovely rosé

Destination, drop-in or drive-by? A definite destination. This is a wonderful estate with a real family feel and clearly run with passion and expertise.
