A burr-covered hound welcomed us as we parked under the myrtle and fig trees of the Domaine de l’Estagnol, tucked into the vineyards of Saint Cyr’s hinterland and led us into the rather tumble-down but appealing and authentic little estate.

The proprietor, Sandrine –a sixth generation winemaker - scolded Lukie's barking, smiled at us and proceeded to lead us through the tasting of the rosé in the cool whitewashed cave-à-vin.

The wine we tried (named after Sandrine’s mother) was a blend of the Mourvèdre, Cincault and Grenache grapes from three different parcels of land. It was more fruity than others we had tasted in the area – a pleasant apéro that could stretch to a shell-fish starter.

Tried and tasted the La Cabanon d’Hélène 2017 rosé at €11.25/bottle.
